¿En qué nos diferenciamos unos de otros? ¿Migrantes, commuters, residentes? Somos transeuntes, somos siluetas.

* El Raval es el barrio del centro de la ciudad de Barcelona en el que mayor porcentaje de población migrante reside. Es objeto de estudio social porque en los últimos 20 años ha sufrido un proceso de gentrification en paralelo a la llegada de migrantes y la inversión pública en equipamientos culturales e infraestructuras públicas.

Ushahidi es un software que permite hacer mapas colaborativos en tu propio servidor si tienes cierta experticia técnica pej. Stop Desahucios. Para facilitar su uso, la misma comunidad de desarrollo ha implementado una versión que funciona en la nube, no siendo necesaria su instalación y configuración, es Crowdmap. Como ejemplo Syria Tracker

“Ushahidi”, which means “testimony” in Swahili, was a website that was initially developed to map reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election fallout at the beginning of 2008. Since then, the name “Ushahidi” has come to represent the people behind the “Ushahidi Platform”. Our roots are in the collaboration of Kenyan citizen journalists during a time of crisis. The original website was used to map incidents of violence and peace efforts throughout the country based on reports submitted via the web and mobile phones. This website had 45,000 users in Kenya, and was the catalyst for us realizing there was a need for a platform based on it, which could be used by others around the world.

By far New York has the highest ridership of public transportation among US cities. A significant percentage of people take the subway, bus, or commuter rail daily. Combined with the options of traveling by foot, bike, or taxi, New York stands as the country’s premier model of urban multi-modal transit. Given the great number of people who travel by these means it would seem that the private automobile is not entirely needed. But be that as it may, the automobile is the main means of transportation.

Though we often don’t consider it to be the case, the car is king in NYC. Accepting our four-wheel friend as a prerequisite, the studio will develop new architectural typologies by imagining a different presence for the car.

If the contemporary city up until now has been designed to the car’s specifications of movement, then we will develop new concepts of urban motion that influence the design of the car.

#Wikicarril 2.0 es la segunda acción ciudadana del colectivo “Camina, haz ciudad” referida a la necesidad de generar de forma bottom-up una infraestructura ciclista que es necesaria en las ciudades mexicanas.

En la primera acción (video) realizada el 20 de octubre de 2011 pintaron frente al Congreso de la Unión un tramo de “wikicarril”, que cumplía con todas las especificaciones técnicas necesarias para este tipo de infraestructura. 2 días después fue borrado por las autoridades.

Queremos construir una ciudad más humana, más sustentable, más incluyente, una ciudad para todos.
- Colectivo “Camina, haz ciudad”.

Para llevar a cabo el #wikicarrill 2.0 el colectivo “Camina, haz ciudad” utilizó el crowdfunding a través de la plataforma Fondeadora solicitando apoyo para realizar 5 km de nuevo #wikicarril el 6 de noviembre de 2011.

El resultado de la acción no sólo se remite al vídeo que inicia este post, han generado la “Guía para construir carril de prioridad cicilista, el #wikicarril”.

“We’re not sure anyone else out there is doing this – mounting walkable direction signs around town, under cover of darkness.

In mid-January, a group calling themselves Walk Raleigh posted 27 such signs at three intersections around the city, and we hear (by reading their Facebook page), that the stunt has actually caught the eye of city officials who may look to make the signs permanent. This is tactical urbanism at its best: a fly-by-night citizen-led escapade whose whimsy could ultimately prompt real improvements to city amenities. So, kudos to these brave urban guerrillas (whom we assume traveled by foot in between installations)”

As ships become more like buildings, the giant floating warehouses of the “just-in-time” system of distribution, factories begin to resemble ships, stealing away stealthily in the night, restlessly searching for ever cheaper labor. A garment factory in Los Angeles or Hong Kong closes, the work benches and sewing machines reappear in the suburbs of Guangzhou or Dacca. In the automobile industry, for example, the function of the ship is akin to that of conveyor systems within the old integrated car factory: parts span the world on their journey to the final assembly line.”

Del 12 al 15 de marzo BeCity junto a un grupo de profesionales de la comunicación, educación social y arquitectura estará en Málaga dirigiendo el Taller de Urbanismo táctico: acción social para una ciudad sostenible, invitados por PCD UNIA.

El taller no sólo busca dirigirse a arquitectos o urbanistas si no sobre todo a cualquier ciudadano interesado en la participación activa (bottom up) como forma cambio, relectura y desarrollo de su ciudad.

El equipo que impartirá el taller será: Ethel Baraona, Enric Senabre, Óscar Martínez, Nacho Domínguez-Adame y Paco González.

La ciudad, el lugar donde vive más del 85% de la población en los países desarrollados, ha pasado de ser la receptora de las crisis a ser su generadora, hecho que se percibe fácilmente observando cómo se ha producido el crecimiento urbano de los últimos 30 años.

Sólo es posible afrontar un futuro de ciudad sostenible si la ciudadanía actúa colectivamente. Y ello pasa porque los ciudadanos aprendan a diseñar cómo organizarse e intercambiar experiencias, por la apropiación de espacios de intercambio de conocimiento que, con tiempo y trabajo, produzcan innovación y acción social en la ciudad.

‘Better Block’: upgrading streets quickly and cheaply.

Working into darkness that Friday night, they painted a bike lane and arranged potted saplings — lent to them by a landscape company — and outdoor furniture to narrow the street’s three traffic lanes to one. A cafe, a flower market, and a children’s art studio briefly moved into some vacant storefronts donated by landlords. Musicians entertained and people hung out.
