“On various train journeys recently, I’ve been reading Gloria Koenig’s excellent Eames, and it’s quickly found its way onto my stack of essential books (alongside Seventy-nine Short Essays on Design and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius).
It’s hard to put my finger on it, but there’s something about Charles and Ray Eames’ approach to life, work and all that other stuff that just inspires me. They refused to be pigeon-holed, making furniture, films, toys, houses (such as their own home, the magnificent Case Study House #8, above). They were adventurous, playful and generous with their significant technical and artistic gifts. They had a curiosity about the world around them and how they could experience it and improve it. They just created.
Eamesificaton. Definitely something to aspire to.” - swisscheeseandbullets
